Saint Joseph Parish, Sylvania

ChurchClipartWalk through the Liturgy of the Mass with Bishop Barron and you’ll be transformed through insights on this most privileged and intimate encounter with our Lord Jesus Christ. See how the Mass brings us out of the fallen world and into the heavenly realm, how it resonates with a call from God and a response from His people, the Church, and, most importantly, how we are intimately joined with the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus through the Holy Eucharist. The Mass will help you understand how to fully, consciously, and actively participate in the source and summit of the Christian life. This 6-week series will be led by Father Hudgin and held on Tuesday afternoons (12:30 to 2:00 p.m.) and Thursday evenings (6:30 to 8:00 p.m.), beginning January 8th and 10th respectively, in the East Campus Meeting Rooms and Family Center. The sessions will conclude on February 12 and 14. Please register by January 2nd by calling the Parish Center at 419-885-5791, or email at jdenyer@stjoesylvania.org. We hope you will consider participating in this new program by Bishop Robert Barron, The Mass.

Words of Faith

catholic-cross-clip-art-free-clipart-images-clipartcow A Thanksgiving Prayer “Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord: let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.”  Psalm 100

This Thursday is Thanksgiving Day in America.   Canada already had one before the snow and ice hampers that fine but cold nation  from giving thanks to God.
Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to gather with family and friends and reflect on the blessings of the last year.   Many of us experience renewed hope and faith during the Thanksgiving holiday because we turn our eyes onto what is most important.
What if we spent time each day in giving thanks and prayer?   How could God grow out faith and trust if we lived  a life of thanks through all seasons and not just Thanksgiving time?   When your heart is filled with gratitude, there is little room to worry or complain.  Here is a classic Thanksgiving Prayer:

Padre Pio Prayer Group

praying-hands-with-rosary-clipart-free-cliparts-that-you-can-0txYGe-clipartDear Fellow Parish Bulletin Reps:  December is dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, which is celebrated on December 8.  The Holy Father’s Intentions for the month of December, 2018:  Evangelization:  In the Service of the Transmission of Faith:  That people, who are involved in the service and transmission of faith, may find, in their dialogue with culture, a language suited to the conditions of the present time.  Feasts for December:  Francis Xavier (12/3), Nicholas (12/6), Ambrose, (12/7), Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary (12/8), Our Lady of Guadalupe (12/12), Lucy (12/13), John of the Cross (12/14), Christmas (12/25), Stephen (12/26), John (12/27), Holy Innocents (12/28) Holy Family (12/30).

Padre Pio celebrated Christmas with incredible devotion and joy.  It was arguably his favorite celebration.  He wrote of his spiritual daughter, Raffaelina Cerase:  “When the Holy Novena begins in honor of the Baby Jesus, it felt as though my spirit were being borne again to a new life.  I felt as though my heart were too small to embrace all our heavenly blessings.  My soul felt as though it were disintegrating in the presence of our God who had become man.  How can we not love him forever with a fervor that never grows stale?  Let us open our hearts to the Baby Jesus whose soul was without the stain of sin and we will taste how sweet and suave it is to love Him.”
