Our Lifetime Commitment to You and Yours

Social Security is here with information, tools, and benefits to help you secure today and tomorrow. Our journey together begins when you’re born and get your Social Security card. It continues when you get your first job and follows you through your entire career, marriage, and retirement. Our commitment is to be with you throughout life’s journey. Our promise extends to surviving family members when a worker dies.

Some of the Social Security taxes you pay go toward survivors benefits for your family. In the event of your death, certain members of your family may be eligible for survivors benefits; these include widows and widowers, divorced widows and widowers, children, and dependent parents.

Thought for the Week

Good Morning Everyone! Welcome to another beautiful day in the neighborhood. It’s beautiful because you’re my neighbor and you’re part of it.

It’s a new day, a new week. Tomorrow starts a new month. We are entering a season of change. All of nature will be changing. Animal’s coats and furs will be thickening so they can be warm; trees will begin to drop their leaves leading to their dormant stage, etc. These changes come about smoothly. This is life, ever evolving, ever moving forward. It’s a never ending process and it is beautiful. We love the changing colors, the cooler temperatures, the wonderful sights, smells and tastes of autumn.

A Renewed Mind

There is a rising need for social workers in the United States to help us cope with societal problems. The need for social workers is expected to grow 15 percent from 2016 to 2026, which is much faster than the average for all occupations.

As a veteran social worker I want to encourage men and women to consider social work as a profession.

Back to school with Social Security

By Erin Thompson, Social Security Public Affairs Specialist, Toledo, OH

It typically takes people a lifetime of planning to reach their retirement goals. The earlier young workers know about saving for their future, the better chance they’ll have at achieving a comfortable retirement. This is why Social Security has created a resource specifically for teachers and students. Our Information for Educators page contains a toolkit with information and resources to educate and engage students on Social Security programs and services.
