ENSURES FAIRNESS AND PROTECTS OHIO’S CONSTITUTION

A YES VOTE ON ISSUE 1 – ENSURES FAIRNESS AND PROTECTS OHIO’S CONSTITUTION

Ohio became a state in 1803, and its constitution was substantially rewritten in 1851. Then again, in 1912, our Ohio Constitution was dramatically rewritten, and the standards for amending it were lowered to 50% plus 1. Since then, our state constitution has been amended 174 times.

Ohio’s Constitution is a foundational document that establishes our form of government and protects our freedoms. Today, the Constitution is far too easy to amend and should have the same protections as the U.S. Constitution and that of 35 other states. It should not be amended based on the issue priorities of dark money, special interests, or the changing political winds.

What a YES Vote on Issue 1 Does

  • Elevates the Standard. By raising the threshold for constitutional amendments to 60%, the People will ensure amendments have widespread support and tell special interests that our Constitution is not for sale.
  • Empowers People Across Ohio. Requiring signatures from Ohioans in all 88 counties will stop special interests from cherry-picking from just 44 counties while ignoring the other 44. This will ensure a diverse and representative population of Ohio voters will determine whether proposed amendments appear on the ballot.
  • Protects the Preborn, Women, and Parents. It will betterprotect Ohio from enshrining painful late-term abortion rights in Ohio’s Constitution by a simple majority.

What a YES Vote on Issue 1 on August 8 Does Not Do

  • End citizen-led constitutional amendments. Since 2008, 14 of 21 amendments passed by over 60%. In 2022, two passed by 77%.
  • Change citizen-led initiated statutes or referendums and changes in the Ohio Revised Code.

A YES Vote on Issue 1 on August 8 will:

  • Protect our rights and freedoms!
  • Protect our pocketbooks!
  • Protect our families!

Special interests target Ohio, seeking to inject their progressive views and objectives into our state’s most sacred document. Why? Ohio is one of the few states that allow these interests to directly enshrine their extreme social preferences and corporate motives into the Constitution at the same threshold as everyday laws. Common sense tells us that this should not be. Protect Ohio’s Constitution. On August 8, Vote YES on Issue 1 – As our State motto declares, “With God, all things are possible!”
