Youth Biking To Enable the Disabled

Tyler. 2nd from the left with Pi Kappa Phi (πκφ),fraternity

Tyler Garn, is part of a fraternity at the University of Toledo called Pi Kappa Phi (πκφ). His fraternity has its own national philanthropy, called “The Ability Experience”, which allows them to be a helping hand for people with disabilities. For example, last spring, they went to the Sunshine Home in Maumee and built a boardwalk so that people who use wheelchairs or walkers can enjoy the outdoors. Through “The Ability Experience”, God opened the door to a greater way to impact through improving the quality of life for people with disabilities.

This Summer, Tyler decided to accept the challenge offered to him through πκφ. It’s a two-week, 865 mile journey (not all at once but up to 100 miles a day), from Miami to Tallahassee, Florida! There are only 35 cyclists chosen from around the nation. The purpose of the bike ride, is to exercise volunteerism, spread awareness, and fundraise for people with disabilities. In addition, between the cycling, there will be meals and fun activities with those who have disabilities. His prayer is that the interaction and connection with the disabled would strengthen them for the future and give them hope to go after their dreams.
This cause has a special place in his heart, as Tyler and his family live with a disabled Veteran. Tyler wants to make a difference in the lives of those who live with disabilities. He is ABLE to go and do any activity and his goal is to ENABLE the disabled to do the same. Maybe not the exact same way, but it can be done. For Tyler, sharing their happiness and achievements becomes an eye-opening experience in and of itself. Just seeing the smile on their faces is priceless! Tyler chose “The Ability Experience” to encourage others to follow the example that we should view them as ABLE instead of DIS-able.
