Heartbeat of Toledo needs volunteers to serve as nurses, parenting instructors and advocates for its East Toledo location.
Heartbeat is a pregnancy resource center whose mission is to be the best source of information and support to women facing pregnancies and to help moms, dads, and babies in need. All services are free and confidential.
The East Toledo office is located at 101 Main St., Suite 4, at the corner of Front and Main, in the historic Weber Block Building.
“We are looking to expand our services in East Toledo and need additional volunteers so we can serve more women and families,” notes Pat Todak, executive director.
Mrs. Todak states that volunteer advocates meet with women facing unplanned pregnancies to provide both information and emotional support. Parenting instructors meet one-on-one with new and expectant moms and dads to facilitate prenatal and parenting lessons. Nurses provide health assessments to women who come in for free pregnancy tests and ultrasounds.
“There is no experience necessary to serve as an advocate or parenting instructor,” Mrs. Todak says. “Nurses should be RNs or LPNs with an active license.”
“All potential volunteers attend an orientation and receive extensive training and shadowing experience before volunteering with clients,” Mrs. Todak adds.
For more information or to attend a volunteer orientation, call Heartbeat at 419-241-9131. A volunteer application is also available on their website, http://heartbeatoftoledo.org/get_involved.html.
Heartbeat has two locations: 4041 W. Sylvania Ave., across from Franklin Park Mall, and 101 Main St. in East Toledo.
