While the baby boom era is behind us, the effects will live on. The number of people reaching the autumn season of life is higher than ever. In fact, the World Health Organization reports that there are around six hundred million people aged 60 and older living in the world today. That number is expected to double by 2025 — a short 12 years from now — and is expected to reach about two billion by 2050. Continue reading »

Truths to Live By (written by Terry McCauley)

ConnectTruthMy story — I grew up in the 50’s & 60’s. There was Mom, Dad and my brother and I. This was a simpler time, a more trusting time. My parents knew my friends and our neighbors. I could pretty much come and go as I pleased.  I was taught that people are basically good, to respect all people, to trust people, to expect the best from people, to reach out to others, and help others. This I learned from my parents and they practiced what they taught.

Great Grandma Preston Apache Hope Mission

whosneigh2Dear Prayer Partners and Supporters,

A few months ago we were approached by our long time friend, Lori Hornback to join her and an excellent church mission team from Full Gospel Temple Muncie, Indiana, on a trip to the White Mountain Apache Nation in Arizona.   We had several “signs” from the Lord that we should go along – in church services and even in our ministry to Muslims in Dearborn, MI!
Liz’s Mom has always had a love for Native Americans.  This love for them prompted her sponsorship of this mission, along with those others who financially supported us.  Thank you so much!

The Voice Of Heaven

Music: Where does it come from? It comes from God. Music heals our minds and brings us peace and tranquility. Music drives away depression. GOD gave music to man and woman to make each other happy, to love, for joy, to celebrate, to ease the pain and sorrow. Music is GOD’s gift to us. Let’s thank God for music as we listen to it. What a perfect gift. Thank you GOD. Thank you Lord Jesus.

Sometimes the sound is hushed and peaceful, wafting softly like a “still small voice”. [I Kings 19:12] At other times it approaches like the thunderous storm over Mount Sinai. [Exodus 20:18]

The language might be different and the tone of it may vary, but it is given as a gift to all from God. It arrives as an amalgamation of pitches and notes. Its frequencies are measured in cycles-per-second and its volume determined by decibels.

Compassion-driven confrontation – Part 3
By Pastor Hobbins

While I don’t think that anyone that likes to confront others, but we can all understand that there are times that confrontation is absolutely necessary. While confrontation may be necessary, confrontation that is coupled with compassion is vital. This causes us to consider, “What constitutes compassion-driven confrontation?” Last month I gave three more elements of compassion-driven confrontation for our consideration. The three we looked at last month were…

  1. Compassion-driven confrontation keeps the proper priority during the confrontation.

  2. Compassion-driven confrontation stays close to the Lord’s leading throughout the confrontation (1 Samuel 8:19-22).

  3. Compassion-driven confrontation should only come from the right person and should not be avoided when you are the right person (1 Samuel 3:12-13; 2 Samuel 12:1).

Now let’s consider a few more elements of compassionate confrontation.

Living in the Light

Auth014I’ve had some time on my hands over the last few weeks and I’ve been catching up on T.V. show’s I’ve missed over the last few years.  One show got me thinking about how something so small as a harmless little white lie can have far reaching affects.  You see one small lie often requires subsequent lies to cover the first small lie.

Beloved

BeauBeloved and Fellow Warriors for Christ,

“Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and you labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food.” (Is 55:1-2, ESV)
It was revealed again to me that the trouble I have gotten myself into is caused by one simple thing – I sought something other than Jesus Christ to satisfy me (idolatry). If I have complicated things in my life, gotten into debt, or made poor decision; it is because my spirit and soul (including intellect and emotions) longed for water and food, and I sought it at the wrong place. It is like going to McDonalds looking for filet mignon. You can search and search, but you will never find a filet at McDonalds.

Dress For Stress II

Auth024By: Chaplain Ruth Cunning

Previously I wrote about verses 10-12 of Ephesians Chapter 6. Now I am writing about verse 13: “Therefore take up the whole armor of God that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, having done all, to stand.”

First it is paramount that you pick up and put on the “whole armor of God.” God has issued you the outfit and equipped you with the weapons and tools that you’ll need to fight against your foes—but it’s your responsibility to wear them and use them!

Luke 12:48 – To whom much is given, much will be required.

This is a requirement…this is mandatory! It’s for our own PROTECTION.

Next let’s look at the word WITHSTAND: To vigorously oppose; bravely resist; stand face-to- face against an adversary; standing your ground.

Valued Sorrow

Auth001by Jeff Ferris

One day, a prison warden was walking the corridors of his penitentiary. As he passed each cell block, the occupants inside boldly declared their innocence and demanded to be released.

Row after row, cell after cell, “I am innocent”, they all shouted.

At last, the warden came upon an inmate who was curled up on his bed, weeping. When the warden inquired as to what was wrong, the man confessed his crimes and blurted his sins. Through tears of grief, the prisoner expressed his anguish and sorrow for his countless offenses. “Are you telling me that you are truly guilty of the crimes for which you have been convicted?” asked the warden.
“Yes, sir, I am”, the man sobbed.

Immediately, the warden initiated the man’s release. “I don’t want him here corrupting all these innocent men”, he said. Though I believe it is simply a modern-day parable and nothing more, I remember hearing this story many years ago. It stayed with me ever since.
(I have written it as best as my recollection has allowed).

Connection-led compassion – Part 2

Auth013Hebrews 5:1 “For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins: 2 Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity.”

In Hebrews 5:1-2, we see that one of the criteria of the Jews choosing an earthly high priest was that he had to be taken from among men. God wanted to emphasize that He chose him from among men so he would be able to identify (understand) with sinners.  His ability to identify with sinners enables the high priest to have compassion on them. He also was compassed about with infirmities. We see the connection between identifying with someone (putting ourselves in their place) and having compassion on them.

Last time we looked at 4 reasons why we lose the compassion that comes from identifying with people. By way of review, we observed that…
