Feinstein Food Drive
“During all of March and April, The Salvation Army participates in the Feinstein Food Drive. The Feinstein Foundation will match a percentage of the donations collected. Non-perishable food items can be dropped off at The Salvation Army located at 620 N Erie Street, Toledo, OH. Please call The Salvation Army for more information at 419-241-1138.”

ToledoFoodBankOhio Hog Farmers, Partners Donate Pork to Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank

Ohio hog farmers have been actively involved in the fight against hunger for years, donating more than 750,000 meals of nutritious pork to Ohio food banks since 2009. This month the Ohio Pork Producers Council (OPPC) is once again doing its part to make sure that no table is without a nutritious, locally-produced meal. On March 12, the Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank will receive 5,000 pounds of ground pork at its distribution warehouse.

Health Fair Offers Free Health Screenings

HopeLutheranHope Lutheran Church, located at the corner of Secor and Bancroft Roads, is holding a health fair on April 20th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Free hot dog lunch.

Various health screenings will be provided free of charge including skin cancer, blood pressure, cholesterol, hearing, glucose, and vision

Information will be provided on senior care, medical supplies, assistance dogs, cancer prevention and guidance for cancer patients, colonoscopies and other GI procedures, mental health, home modifications, physical therapy, Alzheimer’s, assistance for grandparents, running coach/correct shoes and Hospice.
This fair is not just for seniors.

Free Support Series for Family Caregivers

Homewatch CareGivers is hosting a Free to the community 3-part educational series for family members who provide care for their senior loved ones, or those with any chronic illness or disability. The series will start this April and provide family caregivers a sound understanding of the role they have, and tools that are available to help make them more effective in supporting those they care for.

The series takes place over three consecutive Tuesday evenings from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm on April 9th, 16th and 23rd at the Homewatch CareGivers facility – 5650 W. Central Avenue, Suite B, Toledo, OH, 43615.

Last year we enjoyed a wonderful time celebrating the international community amongst us at the “Who’s My Neighbor? Festival held at the WPOS FM Christian Center.  www.whosmyneighbor.org This year WPOS has graciously offered their facilities to us again for the Celebration so we can continue to reach out to our international neighbors, June 29, 2013. Valentine’s Dance to Benefit Food Bank

            The second annual “Hearts of Fire – Feed the Desire” Valentine Dance will take place on Saturday, February 16 at 7:00 pm at Sylvania Country Club, 5201 Corey Rd.  All proceeds from this event will benefit the Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank, a 501(c) (3) non-profit charitable organization established in 1984.

Volunteer chair persons Dana Mollenkamp and Debbie Katich have planned an exciting evening featuring live entertainment by the KGB Band.  “We have raffle prizes, a silent auction, a delightful menu including hors d’oeurves and dinner plus dancing,” said Dana Mollenkamp, co-chair.  Photos are being donated by Kurt Nielsen Photography.  Corporate sponsors include Checker Distributors, Dave White Chevrolet, Managed Care Advisory and Merrill Lynch.  Additional sponsorships are still available.

“The need for nutritious food is a continuing struggle,” said James M. Caldwell, President & CEO of the Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank. “One in five children goes to bed hungry. We rely on the generosity of individuals and groups to help provide food assistance to eliminate hunger in eight counties in Northwest Ohio.”
