“Swingmania” Big Band ensemble to perform at Community of Christ Lutheran Church

Swing“SWINGMANIA” is a dedicated group of talented musicians who are widely known in the Toledo area for playing the great American big band standards at venues such as Centennial Terrace and Trotters Tavern.  Come enjoy a walk down memory lane — and a bit of dancing too.  Swingmania will be performing at Community of Christ Lutheran Church on Sunday, Oct. 13 at 4:00 PM.   A Free-will offering will be collected to help with expenses.   This is a part of the church’s 2013-2014 Concert Series.

Knights of Columbus to Hold Stuffed Cabbage Dinner for Heartbeat of Toledo

The Maumee St. Joseph Council of the Knights of Columbus is holding a stuffed cabbage dinner to benefit Heartbeat of Toledo. The dinner will be held on Saturday, Oct. 5, 6 p.m., at the St. Joseph Community Center, 112 W. Broadway, in Maumee. Cost of the dinner is $9 for adults and $4.50 for children 11 and under. The dinner includes stuffed cabbage, mashed potatoes, green beans and a beverage.

Tickets can be purchased at the door or by calling Bob Boyer at 419-467-1888. Proceeds will be used to purchase a new ultrasound machine for Heartbeat.

Heartbeat of Toledo is a pregnancy center whose goal is to be the best source of information and support for women facing pregnancies and to provide assistance to mothers, fathers and babies in need. Heartbeat provides free pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, and confidential options counseling. Heartbeat also offers free prenatal and parenting classes.

Free, public Medicare event to be held October 8 at First Presbyterian Church of Maumee

logomedicaremadeeasyCome learn about the latest Medicare Updates at “Medicare Made Simple,” a free, public information event to be held at First Presbyterian Church of Maumee, 200 E. Broadway Street (Maumee) on Tuesday, October 8 at 7:00 p.m. The event will be held in Fellowship Hall.

Attendees will take a first glimpse at the new 2014 Medicare Advantage plans from Aetna. Also, there will be plenty of time for general questions from the audience.According to the event facilitator, the meeting should be of particular interest to people who are age 64 and above and looking toward Medicare and retirement.There are lots of resources when it comes to understanding Medicare, but which one is best for you? “Medicare Made Simple” will help you cut through the confusion.

Heartbeat to Offer Free Six-Week “Just for Dads” Program

Studies have shown that a caring dad is just as important for a child’s happiness, well being and success as a caring mom. Because dads do more physically active play with their children than moms, they increase the child’s security and confidence. Dads are also important in helping kids get ready to start school and in making smart choices in life. To help new and expectant fathers be the best possible dads, Heartbeat of Toledo is offering a free, six week, “Just for Dads” program starting Thursday, September 19, 5-6:30 p.m.

Friends of the Food Bank Party

An exclusive evening for friends of the Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank was held on September 11 at the lovely riverfront home of Leo and Debbie Deiger.  Original music was provided by Adam SoRelle from Band 427.

John Christianson, Vice President & General Manager of WTVG-TV and Food Bank Board Member, welcomed over 60 people who enjoyed cocktails and appetizers.  He talked about how thousands of families in Northwest Ohio struggle with hunger every day.

Debbie Deiger is the co-chair for the Masquerade Harvest of Thanks Dinner, Dance and Auction, a fundraiser for the Food Bank on Saturday, October 19, at Sylvania Country Club. Second Annual “Crawl, Stroll, & Walk” Just Days Away

Just days remain until Heartbeat of Toledo’s second annual “Crawl, Stroll, and Walk for Heartbeat” planned for Saturday, September 14, 2013, at Lourdes University. Registration opens that morning at 8:30 and the walk begins at 9. Event sponsors for the walk are LaValley, LaValley, Todak and Schaefer Co., LPA, and Jim & Mary Pope. The walk will be held rain or shine.

The two-mile walk is free and open to both individuals and teams wishing to participate. “To join us you can just show up that morning,” says Pat Todak, executive director. “If you prefer, you can still register online through our website, www.heartbeatoftoledo.org and select the Give to Heartbeat page” notes Pat Todak, executive director. “On that page you’ll see a button to select that will take you to our walk page.”
