Pilgrim Church, located at 1375 Sylvania Avenue in Toledo, Ohio will hold “Sweaters, Soups, Sweets”, a sale to benefit Pilgrim’s Project Dignity Program  & General Budget, on Saturday November 2 from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.    Sweaters (mostly women’s) and other clothing items will be available as well as loads of Christmas Decor.  Homemade soups and baked goods will be available for you while you shop at a very low cost.    This event is open to the public and there is no cost to enter.

GriefFirst Presbyterian Church of Waterville, in conjunction with Hospice of Northwest Ohio, will be hosting a one time, two-hour session about grief called, “Good Grief:  The First Step.”  This class provides participants a basic understanding of the experience of grief and loss.  The class will be on Thursday, November 14, 2013, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. in fellowship hall of First Presbyterian Church, 611 Farnsworth Road, Waterville, Ohio 43566.  Please call Pastor Karen VanderPloeg

Third Baptist Church to Hold FALL REVIVAL

     The three-night spirit-filled revival will be led by teacher, lecturer and author, Reverend Dr. Geoffrey Van Guns, Pastor of Second Calvary Baptist Church, in Norfolk, VA and Past President of the Virginia Baptist State Convention.

      Third Baptist Church looks forward to the community coming out to worship with them as they commit to reviving their spirits and restoring their faith.The revival is open to the public. Everyone is welcome  to join in an inspirational week of devotion, prayer, praise and worship.   A free will offering will be taken.

      Third Baptist Church is the oldest African American Baptist Church in Northwestern Ohio.  The rich history reflects that the church was formed in 1868 when a small band of people attended a noon luncheon in a sawmill yard.  In search of a better life, they believed that a church comprised of African Americans would augment and help to sustain their life toward fulfilling personal, family and community needs.

 

Heartbeat Needs New and Gently Used Baby Items

       Heartbeat of Toledo, a pregnancy center providing support and assistance to families in need, is in need of new and gently used baby items. Most urgently needed are diapers in sizes 4, 5 and 6 and Similac and Isomil powdered formula. Also needed are wipes; new and gently used clothes size 0-6 months; boys clothing up to size 2T; hand sanitizer; baby wash and shampoo; A&D ointment; bottle brushes; towels and wash cloths; outerwear; and gently used high chairs and strollers. Items can be dropped off at Heartbeat, 4041 W. Sylvania Ave. Suite LL4 (across from Westfield Franklin Park Mall), Mondays through Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

    “We give out baby items as part of our Heart to Heart ‘Earn While You Learn’ program,” noted Pat Todak, executive director. New and expectant moms and dads earn points for completing prenatal and parenting classes that they can use to get the baby things they need.

    Heartbeat also provides emergency assistance to families as well as layettes to newborn babies. “The layettes are basically a large bag of baby stuff designed to help families in the first few months of their child’s life,” Mrs. Todak added.

    Heartbeat of Toledo is a pregnancy center whose goal is to be the best source of information and support for women facing pregnancies and to provide assistance to mothers, fathers and babies in need. The organization has been in existence since 1971.

“Swingmania” Big Band ensemble to perform at Community of Christ Lutheran Church

Swing“SWINGMANIA” is a dedicated group of talented musicians who are widely known in the Toledo area for playing the great American big band standards at venues such as Centennial Terrace and Trotters Tavern.  Come enjoy a walk down memory lane — and a bit of dancing too.  Swingmania will be performing at Community of Christ Lutheran Church on Sunday, Oct. 13 at 4:00 PM.   A Free-will offering will be collected to help with expenses.   This is a part of the church’s 2013-2014 Concert Series.

Knights of Columbus to Hold Stuffed Cabbage Dinner for Heartbeat of Toledo

The Maumee St. Joseph Council of the Knights of Columbus is holding a stuffed cabbage dinner to benefit Heartbeat of Toledo. The dinner will be held on Saturday, Oct. 5, 6 p.m., at the St. Joseph Community Center, 112 W. Broadway, in Maumee. Cost of the dinner is $9 for adults and $4.50 for children 11 and under. The dinner includes stuffed cabbage, mashed potatoes, green beans and a beverage.

Tickets can be purchased at the door or by calling Bob Boyer at 419-467-1888. Proceeds will be used to purchase a new ultrasound machine for Heartbeat.

Free, public Medicare event to be held October 8 at First Presbyterian Church of Maumee

logomedicaremadeeasyCome learn about the latest Medicare Updates at “Medicare Made Simple,” a free, public information event to be held at First Presbyterian Church of Maumee, 200 E. Broadway Street (Maumee) on Tuesday, October 8 at 7:00 p.m. The event will be held in Fellowship Hall.

Attendees will take a first glimpse at the new 2014 Medicare Advantage plans from Aetna. Also, there will be plenty of time for general questions from the audience.According to the event facilitator, the meeting should be of particular interest to people who are age 64 and above and looking toward Medicare and retirement.There are lots of resources when it comes to understanding Medicare, but which one is best for you? “Medicare Made Simple” will help you cut through the confusion.
