In search of a better life, they believed that a church comprised of African Americans would augment and help to sustain their life toward fulfilling personal, family and community needs.

Heartbeat of Toledo, a pregnancy center providing support and assistance to families in need, is in need of new and gently used baby items. Most urgently needed are diapers in sizes 4, 5 and 6 and Similac and Isomil powdered formula. Also needed are wipes; new and gently used clothes size 0-6 months; boys clothing up to size 2T; hand sanitizer; baby wash and shampoo; A&D ointment; bottle brushes; towels and wash cloths; outerwear; and gently used high chairs and strollers. Items can be dropped off at Heartbeat, 4041 W. Sylvania Ave. Suite LL4 (across from Westfield Franklin Park Mall), Mondays through Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
“We give out baby items as part of our Heart to Heart ‘Earn While You Learn’ program,” noted Pat Todak, executive director. New and expectant moms and dads earn points for completing prenatal and parenting classes that they can use to get the baby things they need.
Heartbeat also provides emergency assistance to families as well as layettes to newborn babies. “The layettes are basically a large bag of baby stuff designed to help families in the first few months of their child’s life,” Mrs. Todak added.
Heartbeat of Toledo is a pregnancy center whose goal is to be the best source of information and support for women facing pregnancies and to provide assistance to mothers, fathers and babies in need. The organization has been in existence since 1971.
