Free, MLK Day Camp Offered to Community Youth at First Presbyterian Church of Maumee

Celebrating MLK Day with a “A Day On, Not a Day Off” National Service Initiative” event

martin-luther-king-jr-day-L-xGOagM1Parents don’t have to worry about entertaining their children all day during the MLK holiday, thanks to the staff and volunteers at First Presbyterian Church of Maumee (FPC), 200 E. Broadway Street in Maumee.  Anyone, members and non-members alike can drop off their preschool to 8th-grade children off between the hours of  on Monday, January 20 between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. for free food and activities which includes:  air hockey tournaments, video games, arts and crafts, foosball, billiards, a movie with popcorn and more.  A free, pizza luncheon kicks things off at 12:30 p.m.

High schoolers seeking volunteer hours are invited to join the fun by helping to supervise the activities.  “This is a great way for students to earn volunteer hours and perpetuate the MLK A Day on, Not a Day Off National Service Initiative, said Jeanette Axford, FPC’s director of family ministries.

She added, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: ‘What are you doing for others?'”  This free, public event is our small way of perpetuating Dr. King’s Dream, giving back to our community and helping others.

First Presbyterian Church is located one block East of Conant Street in Maumee. For more information about this free, public event call Axford or Sonya Thomas, Communications Director at  (419) 893-0223.

Blue Christmas Worship Service on Sunday December 15th at 7:00

BlueChristmasFirst Presbyterian Church, 611 Farnsworth Road, Waterville, will hold a Blue Christmas Worship Service on Sunday December 15th at 7:00 p.m.  Christmas is such a significant holiday, but for those who are going through their first Christmas without a loved one, or having experienced a significant loss (such as job or income), the thought of being surrounded by the joy and exuberance of happy people is hard.  A Blue Christmas service allows people to worship God and mark the birth of Christ, who has come to redeem us from all that destroys life, in a way that honors the suffering they are experiencing.  For more information (419) 878-2806 or visit www.watervillefpc.org.
