Ribbon Cutting New Outdoor Basketball Hoop

Basketball hoopOn Saturday September the 9th at 10:00 am legendary basketball coach John Rice, noted for teaching children lifelong athletic and discipline skills, will cut the blue ribbon for an outdoor basketball hoop in Ottawa Lake at Zion Lutheran Church, 8307 Memorial Hwy.

At the event a Miami Heat basketball signed by retired NBA start and Michigan resident Shane Battier will be given away.   Mr. Battier, who played at Duke and with Lebron James with the Heat in their championship years, was noted for a unique basketball characteristic.   Whenever he played, the New York Times wrote in their Sunday magazine, all the players around him improved their game.

“Basketball is a great symbol of individual as well as team work and is a key attribute for success in life,” notes Pastor Terry Rebert.  “ It is an honor to offer a resource for the kids to foster life-long individual and community skills.”

After the ribbon cutting by Whiteford High School basketball coach Rice a drawing will be held for a few Detroit Piston basketballs as well as root beer floats for all.
